Gary Berridge

Gary Berridge was born in Houston, Texas. His “day job” is a General
Contractor Superintendent, where he specializes in commercial buildings,
groundwork, fabrication, erection, electrical and welding.

His artistic tendencies started to emerge at a young age when he would
draw simple flowers. He later began welding the flowers and painting
them, so they would remain colorful year-round. Flower projects grew to
cactus plants and then roadrunner sculptures.

His early work became Christmas gifts for family and close friends, as
far back as 2001. The positive feed-back from the happy recipients of
these gifts urged Gary to dive deeper into this art form.

Taking dance lessons with his wife inspired him to create dancing
figures from his medium of choice: railroad spikes and horseshoes. His
garage studio continues to be a point of inspiration.

Gary says, “While working in my studio, either the voices in my head or
just my imagination leads me to creating new sculptures.” His creativity
draws on life-events both from the past and current happenings. Each
piece he creates is a product of his own imagination; working from raw
ideas with no drawings, prints or assembly lines.

Each piece is created as a unique object, hand crafted, making no
two sculptures alike. To further ensure that each piece is unique into
itself, products are numbered and made on a limited basis.

Even though Gary’s art is relatively new in the world, his work is
proudly being displayed by their owners in Houston, Austin, Midland,
West University, Beaumont, San Antonio, Deer Park, La Porte and the
Brenham area. So much for Texas. They’ve also made their way east to
Florida, west to Oxnard, Winnetka, and Chatsworth, Califorinia as well
as north to Chariton and Urbandale, Iowa.  Recently his creations have
ventured to the United Kingdom, in Leeds and the Hornsea area.

Gary says “I hope to keep producing sculptures as long as the voices, my
imagination, and the desire is with me.” So does the art world.
